NASHVILLE, Davidson County, Tenn., Oct. 26, 2026 — A 59-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a car in North Nashville Saturday evening, October 24, and left on a sidewalk for hours before officers found her, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. The crash happened shortly after 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Doctor DB Todd Junior Boulevard and Buchanan Street, police said.
Camera footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed the woman walking in the crosswalk when she was hit by a dark four door sedan driven by a woman described as wearing a purple shirt and light colored pants.
According to police, the driver got out of the car after the crash and, with help from other people nearby, moved the injured woman from the road to the sidewalk. The driver then left the scene after several minutes, and the crash was not reported to police at that time.
Officers from the North Precinct were flagged down around 10:40 p.m., nearly five hours later, after someone spotted the woman unconscious on the sidewalk near the intersection. Police said they administered Narcan at the scene, and when she did not respond, she was taken to Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown, where she remained in critical condition as of Monday, October 26.
The search for the driver and the sedan is active, and anyone with information is asked to contact MNPD's Traffic Division or Crime Stoppers. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who died.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to avoid hitting someone on foot? Slowing down near crosswalks and intersections, scanning both sides of the road before turning, and avoiding distractions like phones give drivers more time to spot and react to pedestrians.
What injuries are common when a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle? Pedestrians often suffer broken bones, head and spinal injuries, and internal injuries, since they have no protection from the impact.
What usually causes these crashes? Distracted or impaired driving, failing to yield at crosswalks, and poor visibility at night or in bad weather are frequent factors.
Does speed make a difference in survival? Yes. Pedestrians struck at lower speeds have much better odds of survival than those hit by a vehicle traveling at higher speed, since the force of impact increases sharply as speed rises.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Nashville, TN
Anyone involved in or witnessing a pedestrian crash should call 911 right away so police and medical help can respond. Even if injuries seem minor at first, it's worth getting checked by a doctor, since some injuries don't show symptoms immediately. If you're a witness, try to note details about the vehicle, the driver, and the direction it fled, and stay with the injured person if it's safe to do so until help arrives. Filing a police report and keeping records of any medical treatment can also matter later on, especially in hit-and-run cases where identifying the driver takes time.
