FRESNO, Fresno County, Calif., Sept. 30, 2026 — A woman died early Wednesday morning, September 30, after being struck by a vehicle near American Avenue and Elm Avenue in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP said it received a call around 4 a.m. from a driver who reported hitting what they believed was a parked car. Officers went to check the area and around 4:57 a.m. found a woman on the side of the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the woman had been struck roughly two hours before she was found. The driver reportedly left the scene and went home after the crash.
The driver was later located and arrested on suspicion of DUI.
