Fresno County, CA (April 30, 2026) – Two men were hospitalized following a head-on crash at the intersection of Manning Avenue and Temperance Avenue, between Fowler and Selma.
Emergency units responded around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, to a scene where a Hyundai Accent and a Ford Ranger had collided head-on. Authorities said the Hyundai was traveling westbound when it crossed into opposing traffic.
The Ford driver, a 73-year-old man, attempted to avoid the collision by swerving into the westbound lane. However, the Hyundai driver also swerved back, leading to a direct impact between the two vehicles.
Both drivers were taken to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Officials said the Hyundai driver, a 60-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and is expected to be booked after being discharged.
The Ford was overturned in the crash, and both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they continue to recover.
How DUI and Lane Deviation Can Lead to Head-On Collisions
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic. Impairment can affect judgment, reaction time, and steering control, increasing the risk of lane departure.
When drivers attempt sudden evasive maneuvers, such as swerving, the situation can worsen if both vehicles react unpredictably. This can result in a direct collision if neither driver maintains a stable path.
Road design and traffic conditions also play a role. On two-lane roads, there is often limited separation between directions of travel, which can increase the severity of a crash when a vehicle enters the wrong lane.
