FRIONA, Parmer County, TX, Sept. 24, 2026 — A three-vehicle crash at the intersection of SH 214 and SH 86 south of Friona killed one man and seriously injured another driver Wednesday, September 23, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. A third driver involved was treated for minor injuries, DPS said.
According to DPS, a 2015 Ford Expedition traveling on SH 86 failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and struck a 2019 Mack truck that was towing a trailer southbound on SH 214. The impact reportedly pushed the Mack truck into the northbound lane, where it collided with a 2020 Freightliner truck that was also pulling a trailer, investigators said.
The trailer being towed by the Mack truck came loose in the collision and landed on top of the Freightliner, DPS said. The Freightliner's driver, identified by DPS as a 59-year-old man of Rowley, Iowa, died from his injuries. The driver of the Ford was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, while the Mack truck's driver was treated for minor injuries, according to the report.
