How Do Turning Movements at Intersections Lead to Injury Crashes?
Crashes often occur when a driver turns across oncoming traffic without enough space or time. Misjudging the speed of approaching vehicles can lead to sudden collisions, especially on busy highways or major intersections.
Left turns are particularly risky because they require crossing multiple lanes. If visibility is limited or traffic is moving quickly, even a small timing error can result in a crash.
Vehicle size and speed can also affect outcomes. Larger vehicles may be harder to avoid, while faster traffic reduces reaction time. These factors can increase the likelihood of injuries when collisions happen at intersections.
