FULLERTON, Orange County, Calif., Oct. 24, 2026 — A driver was reportedly trapped briefly after a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning, October 24, on the connector from northbound Interstate 5 to westbound State Route 91 in Fullerton, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said a dark-colored sedan went off the roadway on the connector just before midnight. A separate vehicle, described as a gray Toyota, was left in the roadway, and its driver was reportedly stuck inside and needed extrication.
What began as a report of a traffic collision with unknown injuries was later updated by the CHP to a hit-and-run with injuries. A tow truck was requested to the scene to clear the vehicles, and a tow company was later notified for rotation service.
The investigation remains open. We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to avoid being involved in a hit-and-run?
Staying alert for erratic or fast-moving vehicles, keeping distance from cars weaving between lanes, and avoiding freeway connectors during low-visibility hours can help. If a crash happens, moving to a safe area and calling 911 immediately improves the chances that a fleeing driver is identified.
What injuries are most common in connector or ramp crashes like this one?
Drivers and passengers often suffer head and neck injuries, broken bones, and injuries from being thrown against the interior of the vehicle, especially when a car leaves the roadway or strikes a fixed object like a pole.
What usually causes crashes on freeway connectors?
Common factors include speeding into tight curves, distracted driving, impaired driving, and sudden lane changes as traffic merges from one freeway to another.
Does speed make a difference in how severe a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds reduce the time a driver has to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which raises the likelihood of serious injury or loss of vehicle control.
What to Do After a Hit-and-Run Crash in Fullerton, CA
If you're involved in a hit-and-run, try to stay calm and get to a safe spot away from traffic if you're able. Call 911 right away and give dispatchers as much detail as you can about the other vehicle, even partial plate numbers or a general description. Seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms don't show up until hours later. Take photos of the scene, your vehicle, and any visible damage, and ask if traffic cameras or nearby businesses may have captured footage. Filing a report with local police or the CHP creates an official record that can help if the driver is later identified.
