What Is Commonly Reviewed in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crashes?
Hit-and-run crashes involving bicyclists are often carefully reviewed due to the vulnerability of cyclists and the severity of injuries involved. Investigators typically examine roadway conditions, vehicle path, and whether the driver left the roadway before impact.
In these cases, physical evidence such as tire marks, debris, and bicycle damage can help reconstruct how the crash occurred. Witness statements and surveillance footage, if available, may also provide critical details about the vehicle’s movements.
Driver impairment and speed are frequently evaluated factors in serious bicycle collisions. Once a suspect vehicle is identified, investigators also review driver behavior after the crash, including whether the scene was left and how the vehicle was later located.
