Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other crashes?
Motorcycles offer riders no outer frame or airbags, so a collision that a car driver might walk away from can throw a rider onto the pavement or into another vehicle.
How do left-turning or pulling-out cars end up colliding with motorcycles?
A driver entering or crossing a road usually misjudges a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply doesn't see it, and pulls out directly into its path.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles before pulling out?
Checking twice before entering a road, scanning for smaller and narrower profiles, and waiting that extra second at intersections can help a driver catch a motorcycle they might otherwise miss.
What should a motorcyclist do after a crash?
If possible, move to safety, call 911, and get checked by a medical provider even if injuries seem minor, since some, like head or internal injuries, aren't always obvious right away. Get the names of responding officers and ask how to obtain the crash report.
