Godwin, NC (January 7, 2026) – A man was killed Tuesday morning in a collision involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 13 near Sunny Ln in Godwin, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. when a 2008 Ford Explorer traveling westbound crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 2025 International tractor-trailer. The impact forced the SUV off the right side of the road, where it struck a ditch and came to a stop.

Troopers confirmed that the driver of the Ford Explorer was ejected during the crash and died at the scene. His identity has not been released, pending notification of his next of kin.

The tractor-trailer came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder, and its driver was transported to a nearby hospital after reporting injuries.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
