Frequently Asked Questions
Are motorcycle crashes more likely to happen at intersections?
Yes. Intersections and points where vehicles cross paths, merge, or travel in unexpected directions are common sites for motorcycle crashes because a rider has less time to react and is harder for other drivers to see.
Does the road surface affect how safe a ride is?
It can. Uneven pavement, debris, wet surfaces, and poor lane markings all reduce a motorcycle's traction and stability, which matters more for a rider than it does for someone in a car or truck.
What gear actually helps reduce injuries in a crash?
A DOT-approved helmet, a reinforced jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots are commonly cited as reducing the severity of injuries in a motorcycle crash, though no gear eliminates risk.
What typically causes motorcycle crashes?
Common factors include other drivers failing to see a motorcycle, wrong-way or wrong-lane travel, speeding, impaired driving, and turning movements at intersections.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Goldsboro, NC
If you witness or are involved in a motorcycle crash, start by calling 911 so police and medical responders can reach the scene quickly. Avoid moving an injured rider unless there's an immediate danger, since movement can worsen some injuries. If you're able, note details like vehicle positions, road conditions, and anything you observed before police arrive, since that information can be useful to investigators later. Anyone involved in or affected by a crash like this should also seek a medical evaluation promptly, even if injuries aren't immediately obvious, and follow up with local police for updates on the investigation's progress.
