Bethlehem Township, OH (May 31, 2026) – According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, on Hudson Drive east of Beth Avenue, in Stark County.
Investigators said three people had stopped in the roadway to remove a fallen tree when an eastbound vehicle struck the obstruction and hit the group before leaving the scene. One of the individuals, identified as Gregory Cutcher, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with serious injuries and later died.
Two other residents from Navarre were also transported to hospitals with serious injuries. A 21-year-old Canton man at the scene suffered minor injuries. Troopers said the vehicle involved is believed to be a small light-colored four-door sedan, possibly white, silver, or gray. No arrests have been made.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the hit-and-run and is asking for any witnesses or video footage that may help identify the driver. We extend our condolences to the family of Gregory Cutcher and all those affected.
Why Hit-and-Run Crashes at Road Hazards Are Especially Dangerous
When a vehicle strikes a road hazard such as debris or a fallen tree, nearby pedestrians or bystanders can be placed in immediate danger, especially if they are on or near active traffic lanes. In low-visibility or nighttime conditions, drivers may have less time to react to unexpected obstacles.
Hit-and-run cases add additional complexity because investigators must rely on physical evidence, witness statements, and surveillance or dashcam footage to identify the vehicle involved. These situations often involve multiple injured parties, making rapid emergency response and accurate scene reconstruction essential for understanding how the sequence of events unfolded.
