GRASS VALLEY, Nevada County, Calif., Nov. 2, 2026 — A driver was reportedly hurt on Saturday afternoon, October 31, in a hit-and-run crash on the Highway 49 Frontage Road near Allison Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision was reported around 4:11 p.m. on the eastbound frontage road just west of Welsh Lane.
The CHP's traffic log describes a gray Volkswagen Golf colliding with a gray SUV. A second vehicle, described as a gray SUV with rear-end damage, reportedly left the scene before officers arrived, the agency's log shows. At least one caller told dispatchers two to three vehicles may have been involved.
Responding units pushed a disabled vehicle to the shoulder and worked to clear lanes that had been blocked by the crash. A tow truck was requested for the Volkswagen, which reportedly would not start after the collision. Fire personnel were also sent to the scene, and CHP units remained in the area to manage traffic until the lanes reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. We hope those who were hurt recover quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Crashes are common at intersections and interchanges, where merging traffic, turning vehicles and sudden braking create conflict points, especially on frontage roads and highway ramps like the one involved here.
What should I do if I'm involved in a hit-and-run crash?
Try to note the other vehicle's description, direction of travel and any plate numbers if it's safe to do so, then contact law enforcement promptly so they can begin searching for the driver and vehicle.
What are common causes of car accidents?
Distraction, following too closely, speed misjudged for conditions and failure to yield are frequent factors, though the specific cause of any crash is determined only after investigators review the evidence.
