Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles often suffer broken bones, head trauma, and internal injuries. Severity typically depends on vehicle speed and the point of impact.
What usually causes pedestrian crashes like this one?
Common factors include limited visibility, drivers failing to see someone crossing, speeding, and roads without sidewalks or marked crosswalks. Investigators in this case have not cited any of those as causes.
Does vehicle speed change a pedestrian's odds of survival?
Yes. The faster a vehicle is moving at impact, the less time a driver has to react and the more force is transferred to the person struck, which raises the risk of serious or fatal injury.
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many occur at intersections or along roads with heavy traffic and no dedicated walking space, conditions similar to those found along stretches of East Cone Boulevard.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Greensboro, NC
If you witness or are involved in a pedestrian crash, call 911 immediately and avoid moving an injured person unless there's an immediate danger. Even if injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation is important since some trauma, like internal bleeding or concussions, isn't obvious right away. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses, and if you're able, take photos of the scene, including lighting conditions, crosswalks, and traffic signals. File a report with local police if one hasn't already been started, and keep a copy for your records. Greensboro residents can also reach out to the city's traffic safety office to report ongoing concerns about specific intersections or stretches of road lacking sidewalks.
