Why Pedestrian Crashes Involving Large Trucks Can Be Severe
Intersections such as State Road 3 and Freeland Road often bring together vehicles traveling at higher speeds along state highways and local traffic crossing or walking nearby. When pedestrians are present near these intersections, the risk of serious injury can increase during a collision.
Large commercial trucks weigh significantly more than passenger vehicles. Because of their size and height, they can require longer distances to slow down and may create more severe impact forces during a crash.
Pedestrians also have no physical protection during a collision. When a large vehicle and a person share the same roadway space, the outcome can depend on factors such as speed, visibility, and the time available for drivers and pedestrians to react.
