Greenville, SC (January 12, 2026) – A man was killed and another person injured following a serious multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon near the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville County.
According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, the collision took place around 2:00 p.m. on Sulphur Springs Road. South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the driver of a Nissan pickup truck was attempting to pass an SUV when it collided head-on with an oncoming GMC pickup truck. The impact also caused the Nissan to crash into the SUV it had tried to overtake.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 42-year-old Anthony Eugene Smith, died at the scene from his injuries. Emergency responders transported the driver of the GMC to a local hospital for treatment. The person driving the SUV was reportedly unharmed.
Troopers and local authorities shut down the area to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Speed and improper passing may have been contributing factors, though the investigation remains ongoing.
