Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles usually suffer head trauma, spinal injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries, since they have no protection from the impact.
What usually causes pedestrian crashes like this one?
Common factors include driver inattention, low visibility, speeding, and pedestrians crossing outside marked areas, though the cause of any specific crash depends on its own investigation.
Does vehicle speed change the outcome for a pedestrian?
Yes. Higher speeds mean less time for a driver to react and a harder impact, which raises the chance of severe or fatal injury to the person struck.
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many occur on roads without sidewalks or crosswalks, at intersections, and in low-light conditions during evening or early morning hours.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Crash in Greer, SC
Anyone involved in or witnessing a pedestrian crash should call 911 immediately and avoid moving an injured person unless there is immediate danger. Even if injuries seem minor at first, a medical evaluation is important, since some injuries like concussions or internal bleeding don't show symptoms right away. Try to note details while they're fresh: where the crash happened, what the lighting and weather were like, and whether there were any witnesses nearby. If you're a family member seeking information, the Greenville County Coroner's Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol can usually direct you to the right investigative contacts. Giving yourself time to process the shock of an incident like this is normal, and leaning on local support resources can help in the days that follow.
