Guilford Township, PA (May 7, 2026) – An 81-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle rollover crash on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, in Franklin County. The collision happened in the 200 block of Franklin Farm Rd at about 2:06 p.m.
According to state police, Jayne Lorah, 81, of Chambersburg, was driving a Kia Spectra and exiting a parking lot before the crash occurred. Investigators said a Ford Escape was traveling along Franklin Farm Rd when the SUV left the roadway, moved across a grassy embankment, struck a PennDOT sign, and then collided with the Kia.
The impact caused both vehicles to overturn and come to rest on their roofs. Emergency units pulled Lorah from the Kia after finding her unresponsive at the scene. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
The driver of the Ford Escape was also taken to a hospital with suspected minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Factors Are Often Reviewed After a Rollover Crash?
Rollover crashes can happen during high-impact collisions or when a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes objects nearby. Investigators often review roadway conditions, vehicle movement, and the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Tire marks, vehicle damage, and the final resting positions of the vehicles may also help explain how the accident unfolded.
Vehicle type can also affect rollover risk. SUVs and larger vehicles generally have a higher center of gravity, which may increase the chance of overturning during sudden movements or side-impact crashes. Seat belt use and roof damage are commonly reviewed as part of the overall assessment.
Medical findings, witness statements, and scene photos may later provide additional context as more information becomes available.
