Gulf County, FL (January 12, 2026) – A tragic rollover crash late Saturday night claimed the life of a driver and left a passenger seriously injured in Gulf County. The fatal collision occurred around 11:44 p.m. along County Road 381, just east of Shady Dr, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Officials say a 40-year-old woman from Crystal River was behind the wheel of a pickup truck heading westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway. In an attempt to regain control and return to the road, the driver reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross to the opposite shoulder and ultimately roll over multiple times.
The violent rollover resulted in the driver being ejected from the vehicle. A Gulf County deputy arrived on the scene shortly after and immediately began performing CPR in an effort to save her life. Despite those efforts, the woman was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of Gulf County EMS.
The truck’s passenger, a 30-year-old woman from Wewahitchka, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby emergency room for urgent medical care. Her current condition has not been released.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life and wish the injured passenger a full and swift recovery.
