How Fires in Multi-Story Homes Can Spread Quickly
Fires in multi-story homes can spread quickly, especially when they start on lower floors. Heat and smoke naturally rise, allowing flames to spread upward through stairwells, walls, or open spaces.
Heavy smoke on the first floor can make it difficult for people inside to exit safely. Quick response times often help limit structural damage and reduce the risk of more serious injuries.
After a fire is contained, crews typically check for hidden hot spots inside walls or ceilings. Smoke damage and water used to extinguish the fire can also affect multiple levels of a home, even if the flames were mainly confined to one area.
