Hamilton, MO (February 25, 2026) – One person was injured late on Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on eastbound US-36 at NE Nettleton Rd, about four miles east of Hamilton. Emergency units responded to the scene around 11:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision involving a pickup truck and a commercial vehicle.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Freightliner truck was traveling eastbound when a Chevrolet Silverado attempted to cross the eastbound lanes from a crossover. The pickup entered the truck’s path, and the truck driver braked and swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision. The Freightliner then struck the front passenger side of the pickup.
The pickup sustained severe damage and came to rest on the north side of the roadway, while the Freightliner stopped on the south shoulder. The 49-year-old pickup driver from Saint Joseph suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment. The Freightliner driver, a 35-year-old man from Plainsville, Illinois, was not reported injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of the injured person as they receive medical care.
Why Crossover and Intersection Crashes Can Be Dangerous on Highways
Crashes at crossovers often happen when drivers attempt to cross multiple lanes of traffic. These areas require drivers to carefully judge the speed and distance of approaching vehicles before proceeding. Miscalculations can lead to serious collisions.
Large trucks need more time and distance to slow down or stop. When another vehicle suddenly enters their path, avoiding a crash can be difficult. Even when drivers try to brake or steer, the size and weight of trucks limit their ability to react quickly.
Clear visibility, patience, and proper timing can help reduce the risk of crossover crashes. Drivers should only cross when there is sufficient space to complete the maneuver safely.
