How Red Light Crashes Lead to Serious Intersection Collisions
Crashes at intersections often occur when drivers fail to obey traffic signals. Running a red light can place a vehicle directly in the path of cross traffic, leaving little time for other drivers to react. These crashes often result in side-impact collisions.
Side-impact collisions can cause injuries because vehicle doors provide less protection than the front or rear. The force of impact may transfer directly to the occupants inside. Even at moderate speeds, injuries can occur.
Traffic signals help control vehicle movement and reduce crash risk. Paying close attention to signals and slowing down when approaching intersections can help prevent these types of collisions.
