Hammond, IN (January 27, 2026) – A tragic accident in northwest Indiana has claimed the life of a young girl after she was struck by a vehicle last week. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 7-year-old Kay’Lee Hawkins of Hammond was killed in the incident, which occurred along the 5900 block of Wallace Rd.
Emergency crews from the Hammond Police Department and Hammond Fire Department responded to the scene following the collision. The young girl was transported to Munster Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased just before 7:45 p.m. on January 22. An autopsy conducted the following day revealed she died from multiple blunt force injuries.
The events leading up to the crash have not yet been released, and officials have not disclosed whether the driver remained on scene or if any charges are being considered. The case remains under active investigation by local authorities.
