Risks Associated With Motorcycle Crashes on High-Speed Interstates
Motorcycle crashes on interstates often carry a higher risk of severe outcomes due to speed and traffic volume. When a rider loses control, even a minor disruption can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.
Secondary impacts are a major concern on highways like I-64. If a rider is left in a travel lane after an initial crash, other motorists may have little time to react, especially during overnight hours when visibility is reduced. Limited lighting and fast-moving traffic can increase the likelihood of a second collision.
Motorcyclists are more exposed than drivers in enclosed vehicles, which can make roadside incidents particularly hazardous. Wearing visible gear, using hazard signals when possible, and quickly moving out of travel lanes can help reduce further risk after an initial crash.
