Hamtramck, MI (July 29, 2026) – Multiple firefighters and several residents were hospitalized after a house fire on Wednesday morning in Hamtramck.
The fire broke out around 8 a.m. at a home in the 3800 block of Belmont Street, prompting a response from the Hamtramck Fire Department and the Detroit Fire Department.
Officials said multiple Hamtramck firefighters and residents were taken to area hospitals with injuries. The Detroit Fire Department confirmed that one of its firefighters suffered burns and was hospitalized. Authorities have not disclosed the total number of people injured or the severity of their conditions.
Homeowner Muwafeg Abuhamra said nine people were inside the home when the fire started. According to Abuhamra, he and his children escaped by jumping from a second-floor balcony with the help of a bystander, while his brother reportedly jumped from the attic and was among those transported to a hospital.
