What Happens When a Vehicle Crosses the Center Line?
When a vehicle crosses the center line on a two-lane highway, the risk of a head-on collision increases. These crashes often result in severe damage because both vehicles may be traveling at highway speeds.
Center line crossings can happen for many reasons. Driver fatigue, distraction, weather conditions, or medical issues may cause a vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic.
Head-on crashes tend to cause serious injuries due to the combined force of impact. Seat belts, airbags, and vehicle design can reduce harm, but the sudden nature of these collisions often leads to life-threatening outcomes.
