Hawthorne, CA (February 25, 2026) – A hit-and-run suspect was taken into custody Sunday, February 22, after a short pursuit ended in a crash in Los Angeles County.
Emergency units initially responded around 8:30 p.m. to a collision near El Segundo Blvd and Isis Ave. While personnel were at the scene, one of the drivers involved suddenly fled, prompting officers to begin a pursuit.
The chase lasted only a few minutes before the suspect, identified as a woman, crashed near the intersection of Aviation Blvd and Imperial Hwy. Reports from the scene indicated that only one vehicle was involved in the crash, and a traffic signal was knocked down during the incident.
An ambulance was called to evaluate the suspect, but she declined transport to a hospital. She was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have not released her identity, and it remains unclear which agency will handle the booking process.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Pursuits Can Lead to Secondary Crashes in Los Angeles County
Police pursuits often develop quickly and can increase the risk of additional crashes, especially in busy urban areas like Los Angeles County. When a driver attempts to flee, speeds may rise and traffic signals may be ignored, raising the chance of losing control.
Intersections are common locations for these incidents. Drivers fleeing a scene may misjudge timing or visibility, which can lead to collisions with infrastructure such as traffic lights or other roadway features. Even a single-vehicle crash can cause damage that affects surrounding traffic.
Road design, traffic volume, and nighttime visibility can all influence how these situations unfold. In areas with frequent vehicle movement, sudden changes in speed or direction can quickly create dangerous conditions for everyone nearby.
