Hendricks County, IN (February 19, 2026) – One man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on February 18 at the intersection of US-36 and County Road 525 E, between Avon and Danville. Deputies with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the crash occurred around noon and involved a semi-truck and two other vehicles.
Investigators say the semi-truck was traveling east on US-36 when it failed to stop at a red light and struck a Chevrolet pickup truck entering the intersection from County Road 525 E. The pickup was then pushed across the median and collided with a Chrysler Sebring that was stopped in the westbound left turn lane of US-36.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 64-year-old Terry Schultz, died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office said the crash remains under investigation. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. More details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Terry Schultz.
Why Intersections with Large Trucks Require Extra Caution
Crashes involving large trucks at intersections can be particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles. When trucks fail to stop at red lights or signals, the results can be devastating for smaller vehicles caught in their path.
Investigations into these types of crashes typically focus on signal timing, braking distance, and visibility at the time of the collision. Driver behavior, such as distraction, fatigue, or impairment, is also reviewed.
In Indiana, intersections along major routes like US-36 see heavy truck traffic, increasing the importance of awareness and adherence to traffic control devices. For passenger vehicle drivers, it’s equally important to approach intersections cautiously, even when they have the right of way. Understanding how truck movement and stopping ability differ from smaller vehicles can help prevent serious collisions.
