Henrico County, VA (February 26, 2026) – A 43-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a pickup truck while walking through an intersection in Henrico County.

According to the Henrico County Department of Emergency Communications, a 911 call was received at approximately 9:20 p.m. reporting a “suspicious situation.” While officers were en route, the caller advised dispatchers that a man had been hit by a vehicle.

Officers with the Henrico County Police Division arrived at the scene and located a man suffering from what officials described as obvious signs of trauma. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities later identified the victim as 43-year-old Torianno Lakeith Callahan of Henrico County.

Preliminary findings indicate that Mr. Callahan was struck by a pickup truck while in the intersection. Police reported that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

Investigators stated that drugs, alcohol, and speed are not believed to have been contributing factors on the part of the driver. The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Callahan’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

What Factors Are Commonly Examined in Fatal Pedestrian Crashes?

Fatal pedestrian-involved crashes prompt comprehensive investigations to determine precisely how and why the collision occurred. Even when impairment and excessive speed are ruled out, authorities must evaluate multiple variables before reaching final conclusions.

Investigators typically analyze roadway design, lighting conditions, traffic signal timing, visibility, and pedestrian right-of-way status. Nighttime incidents, such as this one, often require close review of illumination levels, driver sight distance, and the pedestrian’s position within or near the intersection.

Crash reconstruction specialists may examine vehicle damage patterns, skid marks, surveillance footage, and electronic data where available. Witness statements are also critical in establishing vehicle direction, pedestrian movement, and traffic control compliance at the time of impact.

In many pedestrian cases, determining whether the individual was within a marked crosswalk or crossing against a signal can significantly affect investigative findings. However, even in scenarios where a pedestrian is outside a designated crossing area, drivers are still expected to exercise due care to avoid collisions.

When a driver remains on scene and cooperates, investigators can promptly conduct interviews and field assessments. Final determinations are typically made after reviewing all physical and testimonial evidence.

As authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, officials encourage both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant, particularly during evening hours when visibility may be reduced.
