Why Rollover Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous
Rollover accidents often result in serious injuries because the vehicle may flip or tip multiple times, exposing occupants to direct impact with interior surfaces or external objects. Trucks and taller vehicles are particularly susceptible due to their higher center of gravity.
Roadway departures, leaving the paved surface, are a common factor in rollovers, whether caused by driver error, sudden maneuvers, or slippery conditions. Trees, barriers, and other roadside hazards can increase the severity of injuries when a vehicle overturns.
Wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the risk of injury by keeping occupants restrained and preventing ejection during a rollover. Even with safety measures, these accidents remain high-risk events due to the forces involved.
