Hidden Hills, CA (April 22, 2026) – One person was killed and another injured early Wednesday morning, April 22, in a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound U.S. 101 Freeway near Valley Circle Boulevard.
Emergency units responded to the scene following reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles. Initial information indicates the incident may have involved two separate crashes: a two-vehicle collision followed by another vehicle striking the vehicles involved.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual was removed from a vehicle and taken to a hospital. The identities of those involved and the condition of the injured person have not been released.
All westbound lanes were closed for a period while crews worked at the scene, and traffic was diverted off the freeway. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
How Secondary Collisions Can Occur on Busy Freeways
Secondary crashes can happen when drivers approach an existing accident scene and are unable to stop in time. On busy freeways, reduced visibility, sudden slowdowns, or debris in the road can increase the chance of another impact.
When an initial crash occurs, vehicles may be left in travel lanes, creating hazards for oncoming traffic. Drivers who are not expecting stopped vehicles may react too late, leading to additional collisions.
Traffic speed and spacing between vehicles also affect how these incidents unfold. Maintaining a safe following distance and staying alert to changing road conditions can help reduce the risk of secondary crashes.
