Chicago, IL (July 27, 2026) – A high-speed pursuit ended in a fatal crash early on Sunday morning, July 26, after a pickup truck went off the S Cicero Ave bridge and struck a train box car, killing four people in Chicago.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:16 a.m. in the 6900 block of S Cicero Ave. The police said the pickup truck fled after officers attempted a traffic stop and later traveled at a high rate of speed before leaving the bridge and striking the train equipment.

Three occupants, including two men and one woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth female occupant was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in critical condition, and officials later confirmed that four people died from the crash. The circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck remain under investigation.

Our condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives.

Why Do High-Speed Crashes Have Severe Outcomes?

Crashes involving high speeds can be especially dangerous because vehicles have less time to slow down or avoid hazards. The force involved in these collisions can increase the likelihood of serious damage and life-threatening injuries for people inside the vehicle.

Investigators reviewing these crashes examine vehicle speed, roadway conditions, physical evidence, and available recordings. They may also review the actions of drivers before the collision to better understand how the sequence unfolded.

Safety experts encourage drivers to avoid dangerous driving behaviors, follow traffic laws, and make decisions that reduce risks on public roads. Responsible driving choices can help prevent crashes that place occupants and others in danger.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
