Highland Park, MI (May 18, 2026) – A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Clawson was critically injured early Sunday morning in a crash on the Davison Freeway near Second Avenue, according to Michigan State Police.
Emergency crews responded to the scene around 12:10 a.m. and found the motorcyclist on the roadway near the damaged motorcycle. The rider was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition for treatment. Investigators reported that an earlier crash involving another vehicle had partially blocked a lane of the freeway prior to the motorcycle collision.
While troopers were investigating the crash scene, a separate vehicle struck a marked patrol car that had been positioned to protect emergency responders and motorists. Authorities stated that no officers were inside the patrol vehicle at the time of the impact. The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we hope for his full recovery.
Motorcycle and Highway Safety Awareness
Motorcycle crashes on busy freeways can lead to severe injuries due to limited protection for riders and rapidly changing traffic conditions. Drivers are urged to remain alert, reduce speed near crash scenes, and watch carefully for stopped vehicles, emergency responders, and motorcycles sharing the roadway.
Secondary crashes are a major danger during roadside emergencies, especially when lanes are blocked or traffic flow is disrupted. Authorities remind motorists to move over and slow down when approaching police vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, or active crash scenes to help protect those working along the roadway.
