Hillsboro, OR (April 18, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash was reported on Monday, April 14, at the intersection of Northeast Evergreen Parkway and Northeast Century Boulevard at around 7:30 a.m. One driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and drifted out of their lane.
The drowsy driver struck a speed radar device before the impact caused the vehicle to spin into oncoming traffic. That set off a secondary collision with another vehicle. Both cars and a damaged trailer were towed from the scene.
No major injuries were reported. One driver was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution and was expected to be okay.
The incident remains under review by authorities, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with the driver who was taken to the hospital as they recover.
What Are the Dangers of Drowsy Driving on Oregon Roads?
Drowsy driving is a recognized traffic safety concern across Oregon, particularly during early morning hours when the body’s natural sleep cycle makes it hardest to stay alert. A driver who falls asleep, even briefly, loses all control of the vehicle and cannot react to changing road conditions. The result can be lane departures, roadway object strikes, and collisions with other vehicles — often before the driver is even aware of what is happening.
Fatigue affects reaction time, decision-making, and focus in ways that mirror the effects of alcohol impairment. Studies have consistently shown that going without sleep for 18 or more hours produces impairment comparable to a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. Busy arterial roads like parkways, where vehicles travel at higher speeds and lanes run in opposite directions, leave very little margin for error when a driver loses consciousness behind the wheel.
