Cajon Pass, CA (July 21, 2026) – A motorcyclist was injured around 4:51 a.m. on Monday, July 20, after a driver struck the motorcycle on I-15 south, north of SR-138 in the Cajon Pass, a mountain route connecting the Inland Empire and the High Desert. The driver left the area before authorities arrived, according to dispatch reports.

The motorcycle was found stopped in the No. 1 lane following the collision, and a tow truck was requested to clear it from the roadway. No description of the vehicle or driver involved was included in the initial report.

The driver has not been located, and the case remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is encouraged to come forward with information.

Why Are Motorcyclists Vulnerable in Hit-and-Run Crashes?

Motorcyclists face unique risks on any roadway, but hit-and-run incidents raise additional concerns. Because motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, they can be harder for other drivers to notice, especially in low light or heavy traffic. This visibility gap can contribute to accidents where a driver claims they never saw the rider.

Mountain routes like the Cajon Pass add another layer of difficulty. Steep grades, mixed truck and passenger traffic, and frequent lane changes can make it harder for drivers to track smaller vehicles like motorcycles. Weather and lighting conditions at higher elevations can also shift quickly, affecting visibility for everyone on the road.

After any hit-and-run, an incomplete description of the vehicle involved can make it harder to identify the driver responsible. Basic details such as color, make, direction of travel, or even a partial license plate can be useful. Nearby traffic or security cameras sometimes capture footage that helps piece together what happened.
