Columbus, OH (September 12, 2026) – On Thursday evening, September 10, a hit-and-run crash in east Columbus near East 5th Avenue and Sterling Avenue, left five people injured, including three children. Officials reported that the collision happened shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police said a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows was traveling west on East 5th Avenue in the right lane. The Charger struck the rear right side of a GMC Acadia traveling west in the left lane.

The impact caused the Acadia to lose control and hit a telephone pole on the south side of the street. The Charger driver then left the scene without stopping.

Two adults were taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in stable condition. Three children were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, also in stable condition. One of the children suffered serious injuries. Investigators are searching for the driver involved in the hit-and-run.

Our thoughts are with everyone injured in the collision, especially the child who suffered serious injuries. We wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Can Cause Additional Harm

Leaving the scene of a collision can delay medical assistance and make it harder for investigators to determine what happened. Drivers involved in a crash should stop in a safe location, check on anyone who may be hurt, and remain at the scene as required.

Witnesses can also provide valuable information after a hit-and-run. Details such as the vehicle’s color, make, model, direction of travel, and visible damage may help identify a fleeing driver. Drivers and passengers should avoid following a suspected fleeing vehicle and instead provide information to authorities when it is safe to do so.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
