Hobe Sound, FL (January 5, 2026) – Authorities are investigating a tragic two-vehicle collision that occurred on January 2 at the intersection of Bridge Rd and the southbound off-ramp of Interstate 95 in Hobe Sound. The crash claimed the lives of two teenagers and left a third young passenger seriously injured.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place around 10 p.m. when a small sedan carrying the three teens exited I-95 and was struck in a T-bone style collision by another vehicle. Sheriff John Budensiek reported that a 17-year-old boy from Martin County High School and a 16-year-old girl from Jupiter both suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead after being transported to Jupiter Medical Center.
A 13-year-old passenger in the sedan survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. The child was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach for advanced medical care. Their current condition has not been released.
The other vehicle involved in the collision was driven by a Hobe Sound resident who sustained only minor injuries. Officials have not released that individual’s identity, age, or gender. Sheriff Budensiek confirmed that the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is leading the investigation and that fault in the crash has not yet been determined.
An off-duty paramedic was among the first on scene and attempted lifesaving efforts before official responders arrived. Despite those efforts, the crash resulted in devastating loss for two families and a broader community in mourning.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the teens lost in this heartbreaking incident, and we send our hopes for healing to the young survivor.
Teen Fatalities and Intersection Collisions in Florida
The fatal crash that occurred on January 2 at Bridge Rd and I-95 is a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can unfold on Florida’s highways and ramps. With two teenagers killed and another seriously injured, the consequences of this crash are being deeply felt across Martin County and beyond.
Interstate off-ramps and high-speed intersections like the one at Bridge Rd pose particular danger, especially when visibility is limited or when drivers fail to yield properly. Although the exact cause of this collision remains under investigation by FHP, the T-bone impact suggests a sudden and forceful event that left little time for reaction or avoidance.
Crashes involving young drivers and passengers are especially devastating, as they often affect individuals just beginning their lives. In this case, the loss of two teens and the critical injuries sustained by a third are shaking families, classmates, and local communities who now face unimaginable grief.
Emergency responders, including an off-duty paramedic, acted swiftly to assist, but the severity of the crash meant that even immediate care could not save the young lives lost. This highlights the urgent need for continued focus on road safety, particularly near interchanges and high-risk corridors.
