Hollywood, FL (February 25, 2026) – A fatal crash shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Hollywood Boulevard on Saturday morning, February 21. The collision led to a full closure of the southbound side as crews worked at the scene.
Traffic cameras showed a gray pickup truck stopped on the highway with debris scattered across the roadway. Emergency units were seen examining the vehicle while traffic remained backed up for miles.
Officials have not released details about how many vehicles were involved or identified the person who died. Drivers were urged to expect major delays while the highway remained closed.
The crash remains under investigation. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Do Interstate Crashes Lead to Full Closures?
Crashes on major highways like I-95 often require large safety zones. When debris spreads across several lanes, crews may close the entire roadway to protect responders and drivers. This is especially common in fatal collisions.
High-speed traffic increases the risk of secondary crashes. Closing lanes allows investigators to examine vehicles, document evidence, and remove damaged cars safely. Large vehicles, such as pickup trucks or tractor-trailers, can block multiple lanes after a crash.
Even after vehicles are cleared, it can take time for traffic to return to normal. Congestion may continue for miles as drivers merge or seek alternate routes.
