Bicycle Safety on Busy City Streets
Intersections such as Kapiolani Boulevard and Hauoli Street can create risk due to turning movements. When injuries are reported in Honolulu, crews often work to stabilize traffic flow and protect those at the scene.
Urban corridors with several lanes of traffic may increase the chance of collisions between vehicles and cyclists. Drivers and bicyclists must rely on clear visibility and timing to move safely through these areas.
Traffic signals, lane positioning, and vehicle speed can influence how safely bicycles and cars share the roadway. When crashes occur, emergency crews may temporarily close lanes to assist the injured and restore safe travel conditions.
