Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving a serious risk for cyclists and e-bike riders?
A driver who looks away for even a couple of seconds can miss a cyclist entering a crosswalk or lane, especially at night when visibility is already limited.
How do road conditions and darkness factor into crashes like this one?
Low light, glare and limited reflective gear can make it harder for drivers to spot e-bike riders in time to stop or swerve, which is why visibility gear and well-lit routes matter.
What should someone do immediately after a crash involving a bike or e-bike?
Call 911, stay as still as possible if hurt, and let EMS and police document the scene before vehicles or bikes are moved, if it's safe to wait.
Where do crashes involving cyclists and e-bikes most commonly happen?
They commonly happen at intersections and on streets with mixed vehicle and bike traffic, particularly in busy downtown corridors.
