HONOLULU, Honolulu County, Hawaii, Nov. 3, 2026 — Two people were hospitalized in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash on Sunday evening, November 1, on the westbound H-1 Freeway near the airport, according to police.
The crash happened around 6:25 p.m. as a 32-year-old woman was passing the airport off-ramp, police said. She reportedly lost control of her vehicle and sideswiped a car driven by a 48-year-old man. Police confirmed she was driving at a high rate of speed at the time.
The impact sent the 48-year-old man's vehicle rolling over before it slid into the concrete median. The woman's car came to rest in the leftmost lane of the freeway, where it was then hit by a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman traveling westbound.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services took the 32-year-old woman and the 48-year-old man to a hospital in critical condition. The 48-year-old woman driver was not hurt and stayed at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. We hope everyone who was hurt makes a speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which vehicles are most prone to rolling over?
Taller vehicles with a higher center of gravity, such as SUVs, pickup trucks and vans, are more likely to roll over than low-profile passenger cars, especially during sharp steering movements at speed.
Does wearing a seatbelt change the odds of surviving a rollover?
Yes. A seatbelt keeps an occupant in place during a rollover and lowers the chance of being thrown from the vehicle or against the roof, which is usually where the worst injuries occur.
What does it mean when a rollover is described as "tripped"?
A tripped rollover happens when a tire catches on something, a curb, soft shoulder or guardrail, for example, causing the vehicle to tip rather than roll from speed or steering alone, as can happen on flat pavement.
Are there steps drivers can take around freeway on-ramps and off-ramps to stay safer?
Keeping a steady speed and avoiding sudden lane changes near ramps gives other drivers more time to react, which can help prevent the kind of chain-reaction crash seen in multi-vehicle collisions.
