MISSION VALLEY, San Diego County, Calif., Nov. 3, 2026 — A multi-vehicle crash left at least one vehicle on its roof on eastbound Interstate 8 near Taylor Street in Mission Valley on Monday afternoon, November 2, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said the crash was first reported as a possible solo rollover involving a blue SUV, then grew to involve two to three vehicles as more calls came in. Dispatch logs describe a blue sedan overturned on its side in the center divider, partially blocking the far left lane, and a separate report of a motorcycle involved with a blue car that had flipped onto its roof.
One caller reported that a driver was alert and that an infant was in one of the vehicles, though the caller said they were not close enough to confirm the child's condition. The extent of any injuries has not been confirmed so far. Fire crews responded and were blocking lanes one through three while they worked the scene, and a tow rotation was requested to clear the vehicles. The California Highway Patrol later updated the incident from an unknown-injury collision to one requiring an ambulance.
Lanes were affected for roughly half an hour before being reopened. The California Highway Patrol Freeway Service Patrol closed out its response to the scene by midafternoon.
The cause of the crash has not been released and remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone involved, and we are hoping for good news.

Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants can suffer head, neck and spinal injuries, broken bones, and cuts from broken glass, especially if they are thrown against the roof or ejected. Seatbelts and functioning airbags reduce the risk significantly.
What causes a vehicle to roll over?
Rollovers usually happen when a vehicle's tires catch pavement or a curb while sliding sideways, when a driver overcorrects at speed, or during a sharp swerve to avoid another vehicle or hazard.
Why are rollover crashes considered especially dangerous?
A vehicle can roll multiple times, and occupants without seatbelts can be thrown around the cabin or ejected. Roof damage from rolling can also reduce the space inside the vehicle.
Which vehicles are most prone to rolling over?
Taller, narrower vehicles such as SUVs and pickup trucks have a higher center of gravity and tip over more easily than low, wide sedans.
