Why Do Head-On Collisions Often Lead to Serious Injuries?
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway accidents. When two vehicles strike each other from opposite directions, the combined force of impact can be significant. Even at moderate speeds, the energy released in a direct frontal collision can result in major vehicle damage.
These crashes may occur when a driver crosses the center line or loses control. Road design, curves, and limited visibility can also increase the risk. In some cases, divided highways with barriers help reduce the chance of opposing traffic meeting head-on.
Injury severity often depends on speed, seat belt use, and vehicle safety features. Because of the force involved, people in both vehicles may require immediate hospital care after this type of crash.
