Why Are Freeway Off-Ramps Common Sites for Motorcycle Crashes?
Freeway off-ramps can be challenging for drivers and motorcyclists due to changing speeds and tighter curves. Vehicles often slow down quickly as they exit, which can increase the risk of rear-end or merging collisions. Limited space on ramps may also leave little room to avoid sudden hazards.
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than larger vehicles. On curved or descending ramps, sightlines can shorten, reducing reaction time. Even when riders wear helmets and protective gear, being thrown from a motorcycle can lead to serious injuries.
Traffic patterns on busy freeways add another layer of risk. Sudden lane changes or unexpected braking near exits can create dangerous conditions for everyone on the road.
