HONOLULU, Honolulu County, Hawaii, Nov. 2, 2026 — Two people were critically injured on Sunday evening, November 1, in a three-vehicle crash that included a rollover on the westbound H-1 freeway near the airport off-ramp in Honolulu. The Honolulu Police Department said speed appears to have been a factor.
The crash happened about 6:25 p.m. as a 32-year-old woman was driving west on the freeway past the off-ramp, reportedly at a high rate of speed, according to police. Investigators said she lost control of her vehicle and sideswiped a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old man.
The man's vehicle rolled over and slid into the center concrete median. The woman's vehicle came to rest in the number one lane, where a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman, also heading west, struck it.
The 32-year-old woman and the 48-year-old man were taken to a hospital in critical condition. The 48-year-old woman was not hurt and stayed at the scene. EMS personnel evaluated her there, and she declined transport to a hospital. All three drivers were wearing seat belts.
It remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role, police said. The investigation continues.
We wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery

Frequently Asked Questions
Are rollovers more likely on certain kinds of roads?
Rollovers happen more frequently on roads where vehicles travel at higher speeds, including freeways and highways, especially when a vehicle strikes another object, loses control, or is forced off its path.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants can suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries, even when wearing seat belts, because the vehicle cabin may be crushed or occupants are thrown against the roof or windows.
What makes a vehicle roll over?
A rollover usually starts when a vehicle loses traction or control, usually during a sharp turn, a sideswipe, or a sudden change of direction at speed, causing it to tip onto its side or roof.
Why are rollover crashes considered especially serious?
They frequently involve high speeds and sudden, repeated impacts as the vehicle turns over, which raises the chance of severe injury compared to a standard collision.
