Honolulu, HI (May 3, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash in Honolulu left three men seriously injured Friday night at a busy intersection.
According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, crews responded around 9:35 p.m. to the area of Nuuanu Avenue and North Vineyard Boulevard. Upon arrival, responders found multiple vehicles involved and several injured individuals requiring immediate medical attention.
Officials reported that three men, ages 21, 21, and 47, sustained serious injuries. Emergency personnel provided life-saving treatment at the scene before transporting all three victims to a local hospital for further care.
Police indicated that the crash may have followed a brief pursuit. Authorities observed a vehicle driving erratically and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to comply and fled.
The suspect driver was later taken into custody and arrested for resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle. That individual was also transported to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we wish them a full recovery.
What Risks Are Associated with High-Speed and Evasive Driving?
Crashes involving drivers who attempt to evade police or drive erratically can be especially dangerous. Sudden lane changes, high speeds, and unpredictable movements increase the likelihood of collisions with other vehicles.
When multiple vehicles are involved in a collision, the risk of serious injury rises significantly due to the combined force of successive impacts, which can cause occupants to be struck from more than one direction within seconds. Each vehicle introduces a new force, increasing the likelihood that safety systems are overwhelmed or that structural damage compromises the protection offered to those inside. The combination of vehicles traveling at different speeds, turning movements from multiple directions, and the pressure to move quickly through busy urban intersections can create conditions where a single misjudgment triggers a chain reaction involving several vehicles. Traffic signal timing, visibility at corners, and traffic volume during peak hours all contribute to the overall risk level at these locations.
Evasive driving behavior can also reduce a driver’s ability to react to surrounding conditions, putting everyone on the road at risk. These situations highlight the importance of responsible driving and the dangers associated with fleeing law enforcement.
