What Happens During Vehicle Extrication After Serious Crashes?
Busy corridors like Kapiolani Boulevard often carry steady traffic throughout the day. When injury crashes occur in Honolulu, responders may need to secure the area before beginning rescue efforts.
Extrication is required when a person is trapped inside a damaged vehicle and cannot safely exit on their own. Crews use specialized hydraulic tools to cut or spread parts of the vehicle while keeping the person as stable as possible.
These situations can take time, as responders work carefully to prevent further injury. Stabilizing the vehicle and coordinating medical care are key steps before transporting the injured person to a hospital.
