What Happens When a Vehicle Fails to Stop at an Intersection?
Crashes at intersections often occur when a driver does not stop or yield as required. These areas bring together traffic from different directions, which can increase the risk of a collision if one driver misjudges the timing or ignores a sign.
When a vehicle fails to stop, the collision often happens at an angle, which can cause one or both vehicles to spin or leave the roadway. This can lead to additional impacts with signs, barriers, or nearby objects.
Road signs and markings are placed to help control the flow of traffic and reduce confusion. Drivers are expected to slow down and check for oncoming vehicles before entering an intersection. Even a brief lapse in attention can result in serious consequences, especially on rural highways where speeds are higher.
