Why Bicycle-Vehicle Crashes Are Often Severe
Crashes involving bicycles and motor vehicles are often severe due to the lack of physical protection for cyclists. Even at moderate speeds, the impact from a vehicle can cause life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol impairment can further increase the risk of these crashes by reducing a driver’s ability to react quickly and judge distances accurately. Nighttime conditions may also contribute by limiting visibility for both drivers and cyclists.
Safety measures such as proper lighting for bicycles, staying alert, and avoiding impaired driving can help reduce the risk of these tragic incidents. Awareness and caution from all road users remain essential.
