What Can Lead to Rear-End Motorcycle Crashes at Intersections?
Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles often happen when traffic slows or stops at intersections. Riders may have less time to react if a vehicle ahead stops suddenly, especially in areas with traffic lights or heavy flow.
Visibility can also be a factor. Motorcycles are smaller and may be harder to judge in distance, both for riders and other drivers. At the same time, riders must keep a safe following distance to allow enough space to stop.
Road conditions, lighting, and reaction time all influence how quickly a rider can respond. Even with protective gear like helmets, these crashes can result in serious harm due to the lack of structural protection around the rider.
Maintaining awareness of traffic patterns and allowing extra space between vehicles can help reduce the risk of this type of collision.
