Chicago, IL (August 10, 2026) – Authorities reported that a 1-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man were critically injured in a residential fire in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. Emergency units responded around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, to the 6800 block of South Merrill Avenue for the accidental fire.
Three people were injured during the incident. The 1-year-old boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. A 29-year-old man, also listed in critical condition, and a 26-year-old woman with minor burns were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
